Fijne donderdag! (Happy Thursday!)This past week in the Netherlands was special — it was the King’s birthday! Many decided to celebrate, including US President Joe Biden, one of the first world leaders to congratulate him. 🎉While some decided to spend King’s Day peacefully gazing at the “super king moon”, other festivities were less... serene. Large crowds gathered across the country’s parks despite lockdown and, in some cases, fists were thrown — yikes. But King's Day is over, which means it’s time to start thinking about summer. And what's better than a holiday in the lowlands? A holiday in sunny Spain of course — which may be possible soon thanks to a new coronavirus passport! 🌞Speaking of travel, there’s also good news for US tourists — those who are fully vaccinated can start planning their summer eurotrip! Unfortunately, the same thing cannot be said for tourists from India, as all flights from the country to the Netherlands are now banned. On another note, Dutchies and expats alike had to say goodbye to a few things this week. But when one door closes, another opens, so we can now say a happy goodbye to life under curfew (hoera!), shopping with an appointment, and plastic bags in some Dutch supermarkets. 🍏🥕To top it off, terraces finally reopened… sadly, the weather didn’t get the memo.
