Goedemiddag, beste lezer! (Good afternoon, dear reader!) 👋
Let’s be real: An extra day in the year is not easy on the wallet — especially when Dutch trains are getting more expensive by the minute. Ryanair might also scrap flights from the Netherlands this summer, causing a surge in ticket prices. ✈️
On top of that, buying a house in the Netherlands is getting more expensive, and due to the high demand for accommodation, landlords are charging an arm and a leg for rent. One Rotterdam landlord recently tried renting out a broom closet-sized room for €1,000 a month. If that’s not dire, we don’t know what is.
We’re not surprised when people try to save money in this economy — but it was definitely suspicious when a newspaper vendor was found with almost €32,000 in cash. But even if you don’t have that kind of money lying around, at least your buying power increases in 2024!
On another happy (and strange) note, the first “wedding” between a hologram and a human is taking place in Rotterdam this year. Congratulations to the happy couple — at least they only have to find housing for one. 😅
Tot snel! (See you soon!)
