Spring is in the air: nude swims, emergency delays and AI love
Just because the weather's calm doesn't mean the news is
Fijne lente! (Happy spring)
Ahhh, the Dutch weather has finally re-emerged from the freezing depths of winter and offered us some warm bright light. We think it’s called… the sun? Along with the jolly weather we bring you some quirky and cheeky news. Let’s get into it. 👇
You’ve brought out your shortest shorts, twirled around in your flowiest skirts, and slid on those vintage sunglasses, but before you sizzle out in the sun, remember: UV radiation doesn’t care about looks. In fact, new research shows that thousands of Dutch people get skin cancer annually, so make sure you wear that sunscreen (and check that it’s not expired)! 🧴
Speaking of risks: Did you know that if you have a medical emergency, you could be waiting longer than usual? Dutch emergency services are recording the slowest response times in the past decade. Now’s not the time to have an emergency we guess. 🤷🏻♀️
And the timing couldn’t have been worse, as playgrounds for kids are getting riskier — but with good reason. Apparently, letting kids run wild on less structured playgrounds makes them active. The Dutch take a hands-off parenting style, and we guess letting their children play with fire is a part of that? 🔥
If you’re seeking that kind of freedom as an adult, we have a different option for you: a public swimming pool in The Hague has reintroduced nude swimming. Hold your horses (and your swimsuit) — it’s only once a month, so plan accordingly if you’re ready to let loose… literally. 🍑
Of course, we admire Dutch freedom, but even we have to draw the line somewhere — and we found it in this story: a man officially married his AI chatbot girlfriend, after dating for several years. Love is love, but at what point do we start judging? 🤖💍
Fijne dag! (Have a good day!)
