Hoi jongens! (Hi guys!) 👋
Welcome to the second month of 2024 — gosh, time really flies when you live in one of the best countries on earth, doesn’t it? Yes, you read that right: the Netherlands officially has the second-best quality of life worldwide. 🥳
Are we surprised? Not really. After all, the only thing we can complain about here is delayed trains — and the NS just gave us a reason to continue doing so. The rail operator announced that 2024 will be (another) particularly bad year for train travellers. Yikes. 😬
The high quality of life in the Netherlands also comes at a high price (literally), with shops upping their prices left and right. While tourists seemingly have no problem paying €13 for one stroopwafel, locals are resorting to stealing at self-checkouts. 🧇
On a more serious note, there was a tragic explosion in Rotterdam South last week, claiming three lives and 44 homes. Police believe that a drug lab could be the cause behind the explosion, and they have since arrested one suspect. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
Tot de volgende keer! (See you next time!)
